WHAT IS THE VAGINAL REJUVENATION?
Vaginal rejuvenation, or vaginoplasty, is a surgical procedure that narrows the external vaginal opening and / or the vaginal canal, depending on the indication and desire of the patients. Many women face, after birth or even only due to age, with relaxing the vaginal walls. This leads to decreased stimulation during intercourse and consequently to decreased sexual satisfaction for both partners. Vaginal rejuvenation resolves this discomfort by reducing the external and internal vaginal opening.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF WOMEN WHO CHOOSE TO UNDERGO VAGINAL REJUVENATION?
- Decreasing the sensation of pleasure during sex;
- Large vagina with low vaginal muscle tone;
- Unsightly appearance of the external vaginal opening;
- During sexual intercourse, the partner “slips” out.
- Tampons slide out;
- The vagina “produces” embarrassing sounds during sexual intercourse;
- Tissues and mucus go out of the vagina;
Painful and unsightly scars around the vagina, left after birth;
HOW LONG DOES THE INTERVENTION LAST?
Usually, between 1-2 hours.
WHICH ARE THE COMPLICATIONS OF THE INTERVENTION?
Risks are rare and occur in less than 1% of cases. Complications may be, as with any other intervention: haemorrhage, infection, unsightly scars, and superficial skin nerve damage. As a comparison, the risks during a pregnancy and birth are much higher than those associated with a vaginal rejuvenation performed by an experienced plastic surgeon.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED?
The vaginoplasty is performed under general anesthesia.
RECOVERY AFTER VAGINOPLASTY
Most patients recover immediately after anesthesia and may get up a few hours after the surgery is completed. In the first 24-48 hours, minimal physical effort is recommended, but with the resumption of routine and personal hygiene; light cotton clothes; the resumption of work is done in 4 days; do not drive the car if taking medication for pain. For 6 weeks, as long as recovery is to be completed, sexual intercourse and the use of intravaginal tampons, swimming, physical exercise such as cycling, jetski riding, motorcycles, etc. are to be avoided.
WHEN CAN YOU RESUME YOUR WORK?
Generally, the daily activities can be resumed in 4-7 days, depending on the type of physical effort to be made at work.
IS IT PAINFUL?
The postoperative medication will numb the incision and surgery areas, for the first days, allowing you to get used with the new situation. Usually, patients give up painkillers in 4-6 days.
RESUMPTION OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY IS 4-6 WEEKS AFTER VAGINOPLASTY SURGERY.
HOW LONG WILL THE SURGERY RESULT LAST?
The result is lifelong, except for the cases where another childbirth occurs after surgery. As we age, all body tissues relax, but the vaginal area will not return to the degree of hypotony and relaxation before surgery; a higher degree of vaginal tonus will be maintained over time.
CAN VAGINOPLASTY BE COMBINED WITH OTHER INTERVENTIONS IN THE GENITAL AREA?
Yes, most of the time, it is combined with labiaplasty, usually in the same intervention. Most of the time, patients feel the need for complete remodeling after birth and pregnancy, which is why they are very common with vaginoplasty: liposuction in the abdomen area and overlapping area, breast augmentation with mammary implants, abdominoplasty, breast lift, etc.
