Several years ago, the vast majority of aesthetic surgeries were performed on celebrities! Today, however, many more patients, women and men, have access to medical advancements in this field. Although for some this increase in the number of aesthetic interventions is surprising and revolting, it is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it does not lead to extreme situations!
Romania is ranked 25th in the world as number of aesthetic surgeries, estimated to around 100,000 cases per year. To this number are added non-surgical non-invasive interventions in the field of facial and body aesthetics in an increasing proportion! Why? Lower recovery time, risks and prices, making these aesthetic procedures accessible to a growing number of patients.
Maybe in Romania the situation is not yet so serious as in other countries, such as the US or South Korea, where 60% of the 20-year-old girls have had at least one facial intervention.
A surgical intervention is an important decision, a decision that is good to make by knowing all the details of surgery, risks, recovery, results, information that we find in a consultation with the plastic surgeon.
They often come in contact with the patient’s reaction to the role of the consultation, namely that “they do not see the point, they just know what they want to do, what substances to inject, and how much” .
Consultation is for the benefit of the patient – it is important for all those who want to undergo a certain surgery or aesthetic nonsurgical treatment. The time that the physician assigns to the patient is precious because, besides the proper consultation, the patient’s medical history (to prevent certain risks that some procedures have in a higher percentage), the expectations and the wishes of the patient are discussed, establishing treatment options according to a personalized scheme. Also during the consultation, the post-treatment or post-operative instructions, the recovery, the risks, but also the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment option are detailed!
In conclusion, patients who consider the consultations a waste of time are not prepared patients (lack of correct and personalized information being one of the factors in patients’ unrealistic expectations) for aesthetic surgery!
