Patients requiring surgical correction of giant or hypertrophic breasts may have the following symptoms: cervical contractions (pain contractions); headaches – migraines; lumbar spine pain; pain in the shoulders; deep indentations created by straps of the bras for the support of the breasts; painful heavy breasts; vicious posture; paresthesia, numbness in the fingers, etc.
Breast hypertrophy is a serious problem that affects both the quality of life of the patients and their health.
Heavy and hypertrophic breasts are usually due to their weight and sagginess, so the surgery will correct both the size and the position of the breasts.
The sagging breasts are unfeminine leading to uncertainty and low self-confidence in women with this condition.
Even if the breasts are adequately covered and supported by the bustier, women can not completely ignore the problem due to pain and weight in some postures and movements. In most hypertrophic and saggy breasts, there is also a degree of cystic mastosis, due to insufficient vascular and lymphatic drainage from the enlarged breasts. Also due to the weight of the breasts, ulcers, irritations and unsightly scars can occur at the level of the traces of the bra, but also in the submammary ditch, where the skin does not breathe and can not be properly cleaned, the local hygiene being difficult to maintain.
The chosen technique depends on the type of the breasts, the degree of ptosis and is done after a local and general examination.
Surgery can be scheduled if all preoperative conditions are met:
– Ultrasound and bilateral mammography to indicate that there is no oncological risk;
– Preoperative analyzes to be within normal limits;
– The patient should be in a good health condition;
– Drugs that contravene the intervention to be avoided(the list is discussed individually at the consultation).
– There is a postoperative 3 to 4 week rest period in which no physical effort is made with the arms and the pectoral muscles in order to facilitate uncomplicated healing.
– Surgery is under general anesthesia, lasts between 2.5-4 hours; the patient remaining hospitalized for 24 hours, then returns periodically for examination and dressing once at 2-3 days for 2 weeks.
– Postoperatively, the satisfactions are immediate, the patient feeling immediately the reduced weight of the breasts, the shoulder, spine, head pains, disappearing immediately; posture will be corrected effortlessly.
- As to the type of chosen technique, the following aspects must be taken into account:
- To reduce breast size accordingly;
- To reconstruct a firm and aesthetic contour of the breasts;
- Keeping the areola and nipple;
- Maintaining the sensitivity of nipple and areola;
- Acceptable scars from an aesthetic point of view;
With all these conditions and safety measures in terms of patient safety, although the intervention is physically and mentally demanding, all patients are satisfied and happy after surgery!
